Maho Village — the heart of the island

Most Caribbean resorts offer beautiful seclusion. At Sonesta Resorts St. Maarten, you’re at the center of it all.

Only at Maho

The beach that stops time

There is no beach quite like Maho Beach—and it happens to be right outside our door.

Throughout the day, aircraft arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport make their final approach over Maho Beach, creating one of the Caribbean’s most iconic sights. As each aircraft approaches, conversations pause, cameras come out, and eyes turn skyward. For a few unforgettable moments, strangers share the same sense of wonder.

The experience is unique, but Maho Beach is far more than its famous landings. Crystal-clear waters, soft white sand, and breathtaking Caribbean views make it a beautiful place to relax, swim, or simply soak up the sunshine.

Settle into a beach chair, order your favorite tropical drink, and enjoy everything Maho Beach has to offer. Before you arrive, watch the view live on our Maho Beach webcam and start counting down to your vacation.

Grab a sun lounger, order something cold, and let the show come to you. Our live webcam streams the action around the clock — take a look before you arrive, and you’ll already be counting the days.

When to visit

St. Maarten is always in season

Every time of year brings its own mood. The question isn’t whether to come — it’s which version of paradise suits you best.

Peak Season

December – April

The island at its most golden. Clear skies, low humidity, warm evenings that seem to last forever. This is St. Maarten when everyone wants to be here — and for very good reason.

Spring

May – June

The rush quiets, but the weather doesn’t. May and June are warm, beautiful, and noticeably more relaxed. The beach feels a little more like yours. A wonderful time to visit.

Summer

July – August

Lively, sun-soaked, and full of energy. Families arrive, the water reaches its warmest, and Maho Village hums with a different kind of joy. The Caribbean at full volume.

Off-Season

September – November

The island takes a slower breath. Fewer crowds, exceptional value, and a quieter intimacy that regular visitors tend to keep to themselves. If you’ve been before, this is when you come back.

Which airlines fly direct to St. Maarten?

St. Maarten is better connected than most people realize. Direct flights operate from Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New York, Newark, Orlando, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Toronto, Montreal, Amsterdam, and Paris — served by American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, United, KLM, Air France, and others.

How long does it take to get from the airport?

Less than a five minute taxi ride. Princess Juliana Airport is just one mile away.

Do I need to rent a car?

Not at all — Maho Village puts restaurants, shopping, the beach, and the casino all within walking distance. But if you want to explore the island, Dollar/Thrifty has a desk right in our lobby.

Why is Maho Beach so famous?

Every day, jets on final approach to Princess Juliana Airport pass low over the beach — low enough to feel. It’s become one of the Caribbean’s most extraordinary daily spectacles, and it happens right outside our door. Watch our live webcam and you’ll understand immediately.

What is Maho Village?

Maho Village is the social heart of Sint Maarten’s Dutch side — restaurants, bars, duty-free shops, Casino Royale, and two of the island’s finest resorts, all in one walkable neighborhood right at the edge of Maho Beach.

What's Casino Royale?

St. Maarten’s largest casino, right across the street from the resort. Gaming, live entertainment, and cocktails — and you don’t even need to call a taxi.

When is the best time to visit?

Honestly, any time works. December through April brings perfect weather and the island’s most vibrant atmosphere. May and June are quieter and equally beautiful. July and August are warm and family-filled. September through November is the most tranquil — and the best value.

Can we visit the French side of the island?

Easily. There’s no border crossing — just a sign by the road. The French side has its own distinct character: the beach at Orient Bay, the harbor town of Marigot, and restaurants with a European feel. A different mood, and worth an afternoon.

Is St. Maarten right for families?

Very much so. Sonesta Maho Beach Resort is built for families — pools, beach, daily activities, a Kids Club, and the Pelican’s Nest Sky Deck adventure experience right on property.

Is there an adults-only option?

Two options, actually. Sonesta Ocean Point Resort is our dedicated adults-only resort — intimate, quiet, and couples-focused. Or stay at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and upgrade to the Ultimate Club, an exclusive adults-only floor on levels 9 and 10 with premium amenities and dedicated spaces.
